While Jaipur was the most fun city we visited in India, Udaipur was the most beautiful. Built on 5 lakes, it is sometimes the "Venice of the East." The current Maharanah descends from the only royal Hindu clan that was never defeated by the Mughals. He has turned his property into expensive hotels and tourist attractions that reflect some of the spirit and luxury of Hindu kingdoms from the past. The James Bond movie "Octopussy" was filmed here.
