Even though he was Muslim, Emperor Akbar believed in all religions and kept peace in his kingdom by honoring all faiths. His wives were Muslim, Hindu and Christian, and he built the symbols of these religions into his buildings--Zigzags (Hindu). crosses (Christian) and Moslem (floral motifs). It was the Hindu wife who bore him the promised son, Jehangir, who would become a great Emperor. The theme of barrenness and of miraculous births, as manifest in Abrahamic stories, is common across cultures.
